By employing a flow trigger system, the ART-1000 eliminates a number of the disadvantages found in units with a conventional pressure trigger system, such as:
① The larger the respiration circuit volume, the more time required until negative pressure is available, thus lengthened response time;
② Lowered response to constant circuit flow;
③ Excessive increase of trigger sensitivity causes the unit to vibrate.

Among the many advantages of such design are:
① Gas in the circuit can be inhaled directly any time the patient breaths spontaneously;
② No re-inhalation of expiratory gas;
③ Inhaled gas is always accurately heated/humidified and O2 concentration controlled.
